Star Trek takes us beyond the gadgets and the kooky human looking aliens, but takes us into the human adventure. It's hokey space opera that's been parodied so many times, but at the heart it's human filled with adventure.
In other words, yes. And you'll see that the effects are dimly icing on the cake.
Oh, and JJ did an excellent job in bringing it back.
I disagree with NIX. I think the original series was leaps and bounds better than TNG.
Regardless, I think you need to start with the original. It is available on NetFlix.
I love the original series, but I can't stand any of the other Star Trek series. The original series is awesome.
Start Trek TNG is awesome, and totally an improvement on the original series with William Shatner.
Hello,
I'm 22 years old and have only recently heard of Star Trek. I've been living under a rock. I don't watch a lot of TV but given that I'm an electrical engineer I've been watching The Big Bang Theory and to some extent I liked it. I kept hearing references to Star Trek a lot. I'm also a huge fan of astronomy (I own a Newtonian reflector) and enjoy immensely TV programs like The Universe and the current Cosmos series even though I know almost all they're saying. I'm just fascinated with their artistic interpretations.
So I decided to start watching Star Trek TNG but before I go out and purchase the entire set I'm a little unsure whether I'll enjoy it simply because it was filmed in the 80s lacking all the artistic sophistication that we have now. It will be so hard to concentrate on the dialog if I think the animations etc are fake and difficult to buy to.
So for someone who has watched the Star Trek TNG series, do you think I'll be able to enjoy it given that I'm not an aficionado and I don't care for cheap animations.
Thanks
