Each day every day is the end of the world for many who passing out of life.
The Mayan used 3 calendars. The long count calendar was one rotation of our sun around the center of our galaxy lasted 7885 years ending Dec 21 2012 then it would start again, just like our calendar ends on Dec 31 2012 and starts another year.
The Mayans had the belief the universe was destroyed and recreated at the start of each cycle. However we know the universe was not destroyed and recreated 7885 years ago the Mayan didn't know this because their calendar was only developed about 2000 BC after the last cycle would have started.
The end of the world has been predicted many other times and it hasn't ended yet. This will probably be yet another Y2K type doomsday scenario that will pass uneventfully.
Who knows. Those crazy people over in Iran, etc. will probably start WWIII. The world won't end - we will by our own doing. Centuries have passed and have we learned from our mistakes??? NOPE
