It was Nick. He's been watching all of them, recording (E.J. & Abigail) and listening as much as possible so he can have the goods on them all. Now, he won't tell Hope and Julie or anyone else, for now, what happened down by the river. He will use all the info he's collected to get whatever he wants from them until one of them really does kill him off.
I think it was Nerdy Nick in the flesh, now we won't have to listen to Julie playing detective and seeing the Three Stooges plotting and planning.

I really think it was Nick. I have never believed that Nick was killed. I think that he is going to blackmail the three ladies involved and also blackmail EJ since I think it was Nick recording EJ and Abigail.
