It wasn't a mistake.
Take a look at this picture, you notice the same pattern up there? The ceiling was just made like that, so it wasn't really a mistake or anything at all. :)

Okay, this has been bugging me, in The Hound of the Baskervilles episode of the BBC Sherlock, is that the top of the staging I'm seeing? Above the drop ceiling, I think we can see the top edge of the sound stage? If you follow this link, you can see it at about the 12th second. Anyone else see that? (upper left of screen?)
Not really that important, but for a show that really takes it's details seriously, kind of odd....
