Raping little kids is never wrong in the eyes of KONY.
Rape away little black man. Rape away
No, I don't think it's a scam.
I know it's a scam.
The charity behind the original video is a scam. Barely 30% of the money they collect goes to the Ugandan military - not to help the villages or children. The military.
Kony 2012 fails to mention that in 2006, the UN went into Uganda to capture Kony and shut down his army. Kony fled, supposedly leaving Uganda. That was the last anyone saw of him. Many think he's dead.
Kony2012 is not a charity but a regular for-profit business who hopes to sell people tons of junk with Kony2012 stamped on it. I don't think any of their money goes anywhere but into the pockets of the owner.j
Furthermore, if the goal of Kony2012 is to raise awareness about Kony and his atrocities, why profit from them? And how much more awareness do you need? The video racked up over 60,000,000 views in less than a week, catching the attention of every major news outlet in the US and many others around the world. So if the goal is awareness, mission accomplished, big-time!
Finally, consider the Cover The Night event. It's scheduled for April 20th. 4-20. Do a bit of searching on 420 and see what you turn up. Yeah.... I'm going to guess this wasn't an innocent mistake. You do not plan an international protest and then pick 4/20 at random...
Oh, and putting up flyers on private property without permission of the owner (e.g. "Safeway Corp.") is called vandalism. If it doesn't get your arrested, it will get you a large ticket from the cops -and there will be PLENTY of cops out on 4-20. I hope these naiive kids who wasted their $20 or whatever on Kon2012 garbage don't get arrested.
The problem is, by focusing all of the attention on just one man, who has not even been seen since 2006 and many people believe is dead, and on one country (whose government is hardly a bastion of human rights since they give the death penalty to anyone suspected of being homosexual) it is ignoring the estimated 300,000 child soldiers who are still active and being recruited in other countries including Sierra Leone, Chad, Congo, Sudan, Somalia, Cote d'Ivoire, etc.
it's fine to focus on the plight of child soldiers but it is a MUCH bigger problem across Africa than just in Uganda. And nobody even knows if Kony is alive or dead. The Ugandan military and African Union forces have been looking for him for 6 years, there has been a reward out for his capture, and in all this time there has not even been a single confirmed sighting of him anywhere. Even Osama bin Laden had sightings and released video tapes while the US military was hunting him. But there has not been any news of Kony, which is why many political commentators believe he has been dead for years and the Ugandan government has kept it quiet in order to get financial and miltary assistance from abroad.
Sierra Leone was ravaged with adults and children being hacked to death, hands and arms cut off, etc, by the tens of thousands. It's a common practice in tribal warfare all over Africa. Idi Amin of Uganda used to rape his own soldiers -- just because he could. Basically it's even worse than you think.
