Do I think she's been affected by racism? We've *ALL* been affected by racism. I don't care if you're Black, White, Yellow, whatever. You have been affected even if you didn't realize it at the time.
If someone didn't want to sell her a bag, yeah my guess would be it was racially motivated because I've personally seen other instances where the same thing happened, and it really did turn out to be because the clerk was racist.
@Sylvia - sorry but for one reason or another, the clerk made an assumption Oprah would not be able to afford the bag based solely on her appearance. Whether it was her skin color or clothing, doesn't matter. The clerk is a bigot and should have been immediately terminated.
I am not sure what the damages are. She wasn't prohibited from getting a job, housing or child care. If she wasn't happy with her treatment, she could have asked to see the manager or voiced her dismay politely. She didn't need to make public statements about this and be furious for so long. If she needs to see a psychiatrist to overcome feeling badly for two minutes, she can afford it. Maybe, her self esteem is low, and she is easily offended. If that is the case, she should use some of her good advice to avoid negativity, focus on the light and search for the "secret". I don't see it as racial. Plus, I haven't seen a video of the incident. Several people can view the same event and perceive it differently when retelling it.
Not at all but I do know she caught the vibes how about that?
enough to mention it. Oprah is a citizen of the world's most
racially biased country and somehow she is who she is because of it,
why will one dense idiot ruffle her fathers? someone who is well
aware of the facts of equality based on ethnic backgrounds can
ignore such reactions, if she has done so in her native USA then
other countries are pale in comparison, just like the sales associate
is to her. Pretty soon she will recognize Oprah in the Butler. Oh well!
and if she can get US TV channels CNN or OWN.
I have seen nothing in the reports or Oprah's telling of the incident that leads me to believe it was racist. Few people can afford a $38K purse. The clerk has likely been told that the purse is reserved for certain clientele and it is not to be shown to just anybody. The clerk did not recognize Oprah and made an incorrect judgment that she could not afford the purse. Bad move but not racist.
Oprah Winfrey has the biggest ego of anyone I've ever heard of.
She's richer than God, I'd like to know what charities she supports with all her billions.
As you can probably tell, I'm not a fan.
My thought to this is maybe the clerk didn't recognize her; maybe Oprah was aliitle dressed "down" n she didn't look like the one u c on tv; or maybe the clerk was having a bad day, one doesn't really know n then we weren't there. So, my thought is if it did happen, if it was a mistake, it has been taken care of. If she wants to let it go, then so be it. If she doesn't want to let it go, then its on her how she wants to go forward. But with all the money she has and all the projects she has going on in her life, do u really think she even cares? If it were me in her shoes, I simply wouldn't go into that store, that's all. $38,000.00 is nothing to her if she really spends that much at one time for just one thing.
No, she wasn't. Boohoo Oprah you're not famous in every crack and cranny in the world. Big deal. Why was she buying a bag that expensive anyway? She's always talking about the famine in Africa and trying to buy a 38k bag? Meh!
Which part of this handbag costs $35000?
It's immoral to waste such amount on a "handbag".
I don't believe that racism had anything to do with it, i am sure there is another explanation to it!
I think that Oprah is probably the racist in this case!
I've heard reports of how the assistant avoided selling her the handbag. However, I seem to have missed why Oprah connected her treatment with her being black, a person of colour or whichever therm you prefer.
Maybe there was a reason but that fact didn't come out in the reports I heard
