Dragon Ball Z sucks?

Posted at: 2015-04-20
What is good entertainment and what is bad entertainment is in the eye of the beholder. Don't fret about it! Just do what you enjoy for fun and allow those who disagree with you about what is fun to do the same.

Statement: Bad, repetitive storyline of:

*Find/Meet strong bad guy, gets defeated, gets stronger, defeats strong bad guy*

There is literally no arc, when this isn't the case; throughout all the different series.

Answer: Dragon Ball Z is meant to be about fighting, and besides it's not like every enemy is the same, every villain develops a character with a motive, personality, and fighting style.

Statement: Horrible animation:

Literally disgusting, both drawing and coloring was horrific.

Answer: The show came out in the mid 80's and ran through the 80's and 90's, that was the style for drawing/animation.

Statement: Voice acting,

worse than Pokémon...

Answer: If you're regarding to the English dub I would highly disagree.

Statement: 90% Sure that it's worse than Naruto,

but only just barely.

Answer: I don't watch Naruto so I can't make any claims and I'm not gonna start anything.

Statement: Flashbacks take up a 1/4 of the episodes.

Answer: Flashbacks rarely show up in the series and are usually just a one minute scene.

Statement:Shouting "Kaa-mee-haa-meee-ha!" or "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh", takes

up another 1/4 of the episodes.

Answer: Ok that's just you exaggerating.

Statement: Retarded story implements that allow characters to come back even after dying which completely nullifies any further emotion you have for the show.

Answer: Even if characters are revived later after their death, the scene where they die still has emotion to them, especially Krillin's second death since at the time they thought he couldn't come back, and also that being the trigger to Goku's transformation.

Statement: The worst combat scenes I have ever seen, even in it's day it was nothing on Astro Boy.

Answer: That's your opinion, I don't agree with it but you thinking it doesn't have good combat scenes doesn't make it a bad show.

Statement: The fans make it even worse; they say it's great but provide no logical explanation to the statement.

Answer: If someone likes something, let them be, do they have to elaborate, does it really matter to you if you know why they like the show?

You are ok with hating something friend,

But I'm feeling you're using the emotion part of yahoo to release all your frustration and look for answers with similar opinion...

Well I fear you won't get any here, as most of us really respect DBZ as being a classical anime which hooked many of us into this genre of entertainment...

Yes I know, the story is rather simple, enemy-train-fight-repeat but plain water tastes better after you have all the juices out there...

I have to disagree about the animation, it was good for its times where these were great expenses... maybe what you can say is that it doesn't meet your spices :)

It will be a more suited topic in critical forums...

There is nothing else I can say that kiryuthedragon has not already said. The points made there are great and I'm sure your either trolling or just looking for someone to agree with you.

He did forget this however....OBVIOUS TROLL IS OBVIOUS.

I find your lack of imagination and respect for one of the most inspirational anime and manga of all times very disturbing.

Dragonball is a series for mid 80s to 90s, back when their style of animation and story telling was still this norm.

You cannot compare this series with modern series as they have evolved in terms of quality and content to something different.

Back in the time, action and suspense were the most important things, whereas today people have more focus on the story and character development than the actual action.

Let's analyze your points.

-Bad, repetitive storyline of:

*Find/Meet strong bad guy, gets defeated, gets stronger, defeats strong bad guy*

There is literally no arc, when this isn't the case; throughout all the different series.

Kinda like many other series that still hold up today and are being played today; Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach,...

-Horrible animation:

Literally disgusting, both drawing and colouring was horrific.

That was the style back then and you exaggerate critically.

-Voice acting,

worse than Pokémon...

The english voices or the original japanese voices? I can agree the japanese onces aren't what I prefer either but the english voices are supreme. Vegeta and Goku are some of the most memorable voices in english voice actor business. You wanna hear bad voice acting? Check out the main protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal dub) or One Piece's Luffy (4Kids dub), those are horrible voices.

-90% Sure that it's worse than Naruto,

but only just barely.

Yet Naruto was inspired heavily by DBZ, as stated by the author himself, Masashi Kishimoto.

And that's really opinion based btw, not a fact.

-Flashbacks take up a 1/4 of the episodes.

Yeah no, that's a lie.

They very rarely have flashbacks and when they do, it's really not that much.

The largets flashback I can remember was when Vegeta recalls his history with Goku, which took a few minutes but was well worth the reminder as they used new scenes with old ones and hearing Vegeta admit Goku is #1 in the universe is really cool.

-Shouting "Kaa-mee-haa-meee-ha!" or "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh", takes

up another 1/4 of the episodes.

Again, you exaggerate immensely.

You and people who keep saying that are clearly hating here.

People also say the Spirit Bomb takes several episodes to charge or they take a whole episode to charge up their power.

Get your facts straight! Those times they take a long time to power something up or themselves are not seldom and downright amazing. The music that accompanies them, god bless Bruce Faulconer, only amplifies these moments further (have a look at the Ocean dub or Funimation dub of the Final Flash scene).

-Retarded story implements that allow characters to come back even after dying which completely nullifies any further emotion you have for the show.

I admit, they make death look like a minor inconvenience... but that's because we don't need those emotions of sadness here.

We need to focus on the rush of adrenaline when two characters beat the **** out of each other.

DBZ also teaches that support from beyond the grave can help the living (like when Goku helped Gohan defeat Cell)... in a sense.

Also, you take this waaaaay to seriously.

Again, remember this is a series from the 90s and that this was the style back then for this type of manga/anime. Yu Yu Hakusho may have had a bit more emotion (example, Genkai's death) but that doesn't mean DBZ is worse.

-The worst combat scenes I have ever seen, even in it's day it was nothing on Astro Boy.

Now I know you are just hating.

DBZ has one of the most intense and memorable fights ever.

Watch 90% of anime fans' top 10 fights in anime history and I'm sure they'll either add Goku vs Frieza or Gohan vs Cell in that.

- The fans make it even worse; they say it's great but provide no logical explanation to the statement.

Or you are just not listerning to them.

Why need logic when the concept of great or bad is purely opinion based.

Obviously if the show is still regarded as one of the best of all times by both old and new fans, it means the show did something right that you aren't seeing.

If you don't like it, that's fine, power to you for having an opinion that's not the same as many others have.

It shows you have a distinct interest I'm sure many will appreciate and share.

But that doesn't mean you are correct by a fact nor that you can bash in the opinions of others and their likes.

If you do, it'll only make you a hypocrite and a hater for no reason but hating on something you share a different opinion about.

So that's by 2 cents.

You don't really have any points. Everything is just bad to you, I submit to you that your taste is sh1t and you're wrong.

How can so many fans be so blind sided but this horrific piece of work?

Maybe it's good for its sentimental value but all of the features are horrible:

-Bad, repetitive storyline of:

*Find/Meet strong bad guy, gets defeated, gets stronger, defeats strong bad guy*

There is literally no arc, when this isn't the case; throughout all the different series.

-Prove me wrong-

Is my question.

-Prove me wrong that Dragon Ball is only good for it's sentimental value and impact on the anime industry and that there's nothing good in its actual features or context-
