Try Degrassi The Next Generation and go from there...it deals with teenagers who go to school at Degrassi High and is an ensemble cast and deals with death, teen pregnancy, violence/murders, depression/suicide/self-harm, gays/lesbians, transgenders, religious beliefs, cheating, abuse, and other stuff...
You should also try Pretty Little Liars...It's about 4 girls who's friend has died during the night of a party and the girls get text messages threatening them and blackmailing them and the only clue is the letter 'A' which is always signed at the bottom of every message. They try to find out who the person is before someone REALLY gets hurt
Switched at Birth is about these 2 teenage girls who are born on the same day, same hospital, same time and accidentally get switched and given to the wrong parents...one of the girls can't talk (forgot what disability it is...) and the other girls falls for a guy who's deaf...they try to deal with drama and heartbreak and don't realize til a few seasons that they've been brought to the wrong families...
The Fosters deals with a foster family which consists of 2 women whom are partners and girlfriends and they take care of 6 kids (one of them being their son) and the main character is 16 year old Callie. Callie has to deal with arguing and fighting among her foster friends whom are more like brothers and sisters and love each other dearly and tries to find herself through it all. It also deals with religion, teen sex, insecurities, loneliness, heartbreak, some violence (since one of the moms is a police officer), and rape...
Twisted is about a high school boy Danny who comes back into town after being in prison and tries to change but realizes that his past cannot be forgotten. At school the main character (forgot her name) has to try and discover the reason behind her friends murder and if Danny really has changed and also tries to get revenge and put him back into the dirt...contains sexual content, and violence/murder
