It's basically about different families (houses) vying over the Iron Throne (trying to be the ruler of Westeros). It's really interesting and you get very attached to the characters, and the storyline is great. Would recommend 10/10.
Game of Thrones is a fantasy series about the machinations of various groups of nobles in the fictional land of Westeros. In terms of style it's somewhat in the same style as shows like Tudors or Rome in that it has a fair amount of graphic violence and sex. The show, based on a bestselling series of novels, is different from many fantasy series in that it emphasizes the grit and dirtiness of the medieval type setting and downplays magic and fantasy creatures
Just watch the first few episodes and you will be addicted. It's good. Also, I though The Killing and Lilyhammer were pretty great, especially for series that didn't seem to attract a lot of attention.
It's really too much to go into detail about. But if you want the basics I would say it's about kings and nobles abusing their name and power, and people trying to get revenge on them. I would say about half if the story is that and the other half is sex, wine, and killing. With that said, it's the best tv show i've ever seen.
