On December 8, 1980, he was shot outside of the Dakota on West 72nd street in Manhattan, where he lived, upon returning home. Mark David Chapman was a delusional man who developed the belief that the actress Jodie Foster would find him appealing if he make a dramatic gesture that captured national media attention. He also believed he was personally connected to the novel "Catcher in the Rye" which somehow explained his actions.
He used a .38 revolver, which is actually slang for a .357 caliber handgun with hollow-point bullets which are more lethal.
It was sick. 4 or 5 shots from a 38 revolver i think , loaded with hollow point bullets,the bullet spreads open after entering or piercing.Exit wounds are much bigger than the entry ones..He had major internal organ damage with blood coming out of everywhere..Mark David Chapman a rich kid who traveled a bit, forever linked his name to John Lennon's by doing this ( as was mentioned by a NYC Cop) A few mentioned British Tax Evasion ,but was deemed preposterous,but they no like their crown hiding like that ..just kidding
