As for being scary, the first couple episodes were a little scary because of Twisty the Clown. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being scariest, I'd give the first 4 episodes a 4. The other episodes a 1 or 2 on the scary level. My 13 year old niece loves the show and she only found a few parts scary.
There is some gory parts. But nothing too bad.
It's a great show, definitely give it a try.
You don't have to watch the previous seasons. AHS is an anthology series and each season uses a cast of largely the same actors but they play different characters in a different setting with a different story. The first season is about a family which moves into a haunted house. The second season is about an insane asylum in the 60s. The third season is about a coven of witches in New Orleans, and the current season is about a freak show in 1950s Florida.
The show tends more towards gore and grossness than to jump out scares. The first season is about a haunted house, but the ghosts in it look fully human and aren't translucent specters, or moldering corpses or anything. The other seasons ratchet up the gore a bit, in season two for example there's a plotline with someone conducting medical experiments on people and we see them with their skin messed up and stuff. Season three has some gruesome scenes of people being tortured. This new season is probably less gory overall although it does contain a scary clown in it.
I don't find it too bad. It's more disturbing I'd say. The show is all around creepy. I guess I wouldn't recommend it to a squeamish person.
I don't think it's very scary. Honestly the creepiest part is the opening credits.
If you are a seasoned horror veteran you will find it stupid and very predictable, but if you only watch horror occasionally then you'll find it ok

So the new season looks cool, but I'd have to watch the seasons before first and I'm scared really easily. I hate horror movies because I freak out easily. Is this as bad? And what are the scariest thing in it? (i.e. ghosts, jump scares, killings, etc) please answer if you've seen the show. Thanks!
