I agree completely with you. I think that Supernatural has got to end with them both being dead (wow, that kind of hurts). It would be kind of nice for it to happen on a routine hunt, but I don't think that's going to happen. But, hey, I've been wrong before. I think the writers will wrap everything up (hopefully) and they'll save the world, but lose their lives in the process - kind of like a sacrifice or something because we all know how much the writers love writing sacrifices. I kind of want it to be a simple human death though, not something massively elaborate or something supernatural, like being smited by angels. I kind of want them to die from something like a knife, or a gun, because as you said, their deaths should be human.
As for Sam dying before Dean, I completely agree with you. I think that would also sum up their relationship too. Dean knowing that Sam's gone now, and that he looked out for him his entire life, and then letting himself die. I think that would be perfect. I hope it happens like that but the writers are evil people and who knows what could happen.
The final season should mirror season 1. Just Sam and Dean on the open road, saving people and hunting things. Then kill them together. I don't care how. Just let the two of them be together when they die.
I don't want them to die, I think it should end with them continuing with their 'normal' life hunting. Everything is OK, monsters still exist but heaven and hell are running as they should and no apocalypses are going to happen. I think the last scene should be them both in the impala arguing over who picks the music.
I just really wanna see what other people's opinions are on how they personally would end the show if they had the option. Who would die/live and how, what would happen in your ideal series finale?
For me, one thing I would NEED to have in the finale is Sam and Dean dying, together. I personally think that if they don't die, Supernatural will never be over for me because they can still hunt and go on and there's just too many possibilities for the show to be tied up nicely.
MY OPINION:
I'd want their death to happen on just a routine hunting trip, not any apocalypse/Lucifer/Angel etc Earth shattering battle royal, just a regular hunt. Routine at this point, but I think dying there would show that they died after saving the world and that after all they've been through they can go now. At that point I think it would emphasize the fact that they are only human, and humans make mistakes and they get hurt, and they die. I think that their humanity needs to be emphasized in their deaths.
I'd also want them both to die at the same time, but Sam to go first. Dean would look over at Sam and see that he's already gone, and right then Dean would know that he completed his duty in life, to protect Sam and be with him until the end, and then Dean would close his eyes and die quietly beside Sam, ready to face the afterlife just as they always have; together.
Just my opinions, I have been hoping for an ending like that since I started watching and as the seasons have gone by I strongly stand by my opinion but am curious to hear others'.
