Blood spatter analysis is most definitely a real thing. However, it is simply one method of crime scene investigation among many others in an investigator's arsenal. Blood spatter is only one part of the job. You would still need a degree in chemistry and/or forensics because you'll have to understand DNA, fingerprints, and countless amounts of trace evidence processing procedures.
