I'm still willing to be open minded though. I really like the show and though I've seen five of the episodes that have been aired so far and haven't immediately taken to him doesn't mean he won't grow on me. I'm usually pretty easy going with the introduction of new characters and have really liked all the past doctors and companions even if I wasn't fond of them immediately.
I wouldn't say he's killing the show. If anything, I think the writing could use some improving. I've never seen him in anything else but he seems to be a really good actor so I still have high hopes.
Part of the problem is that several of the episodes (including the last one) were written for Matt Smith. They did some minor rewriting for Capaldi, but not a lot. This has led to Capaldi not being able to do much in the way of character development. Hopefully they'll burn off those old scripts soon and he'll have better material to work with.
I think he is quite good, the Doctor is still finding himself. He has had some rough times after regenerating before(see the 6th Doctor) Getting a new set of regenerations may be very hard on him As much as I like Matt Smith and Chris Eccleston, Tennant is at the bottom of my list. I love haveing an older Doctor again(you know only 4 of them have been under 40) Except for the rare occation, I have no trouble understand him
i think its about time it went back to the old doctor style
using David Tennant and Matt Smith made it appeal to the teen masses, and it was never supposed to be that
i think he is taking his time to settle, and i agree he cna appear to be a bit bewlidered at times
i shall give him some more time before writing him off
i think the writers didnt quite anticipate writing for an older doctor, so he isnt completely to blame
its either going to get really good if the writers play to his good points, or they will make it revert back to teen bopper blah and introduce another younger doctor
I just can't stand him. Neither can anyone I talk to about the show. Can someone please explain to me how he's even a passable doctor, I just don't get it!
I understand that the doctor's personality changes with each incarnation and Capaldi is leaning towards the "classic doctor" direction but damn. He no longer seems intelligent, the other recent doctors all did the fast talking science stuff and quick observations but Capaldi just seems to stumble around bewildered and confused, and the episode is now just him trying to make sense of a situation we've already worked out. It's no fun if the doctor is slower than the average viewer.
He barely does any science stuff, he's slow, his only definable quirk is that he bickers over every petty thing, he mumbles like nobody's business (I literally have to rewind certain parts 5 or 6 times to get what he just said). I'm not being mean when I say he genuinely comes across as mentally challenged.
I watch the show for the outlandish science stuff, the epic hero moments, the onscreen chemistry and that feeling of adventure! Capaldi gives off none of that. I get that he's trying to be old school, but the formula of the show has been the same for 9 years! And it was GOOD! Now its just another show, focusing on poorly written drama and character conflict.
I want to watch sci-fi, not a handicapped guy try bickering with everyone! Clara is literally carrying the show at this point. So whats going on?
He's just all around a bad watch.
