01. Give it a try. The worst that can happen is you don't like it & then move on.
02. It is well done, with attention to the smallest of details & diverse locations of interest. Wardrobe, makeup & EFX have done well. The casting director has chosen actors that understand their characters & deliver. Cinematography is good.
03. The story line has deviated a little from the books. That's as good as it gets for a Series that, due to the incredibly high cost of each episode, is only able to budget ten per season. The script writers have even answered a question that the book writer, GRRM, has yet not answered in his five books. Two more books forthcoming, word is. Attached are links about cost.
04. It is not a 'touchy-feely' story like LOTR, or Harry Potter. There is no point comparing it to current times. Each kingdom has its own rules for their society. Nothing is fair or predictable. Everyone has their own favourite characters & the villains.

It's the best. If you like knights and kings and queens and wars and bloodshed and sex and backstabbing, you'll love it. Don't get attached to anyone though, everyone dies.

It's sort of like a medieval fantasy Borgias.
There is a lot of drama, murder, deceit, sex, violence, revenge and general deviousness between a group of families in a fantasy land called Westeros who are all trying to gain the iron throne and become ruler. There are a few likable characters but they are generally all interesting. There are a lot of twists and turns and a truly epic storyline.
There are alot of meh cheesy elements and overly gory parts, like each character all of a sudden goes in a moment of explaining their back story, which makes it seem very one dimensional imo. But it has a gigantic lore with so many elements that it makes up for it
Game Of Thrones is an amazing HBO TV series about medieval times, with clans of seven kingdoms Raging wars against each other in order to win over the entire 7 kingdoms. It's a wonderful series with some of the most amazing graphics,dialogues,characters and an overwhelming storyline. But Beware before you start watching it, it's so addictive that you might spend your entire day watching a season from end to end. Good Luck and enjoy the show!
