A lot has to do with the background of these people.
If they come from cities or other cosmopolitan centres, the chances are they will integrate much better and faster within our society because they are used to many of our ways.
But if they are from a rural background, firstly they will have far less trust in the native people, and secondly they will tend to be religiously far more conservative, with age old traditions that they continue to practice.
The most significant of these is the importance of the family to them, and their belief in specific family roles. This has been built up and instilled in them for so many generations. For them, these traditions provided security and continued existence, in the very hard, very poor world they were used to.
When they come to Europe this security is provided moreso by the state, something we take for granted, but in their home countries there is no possibility to get money from the state.
For them our system is truly wonderful and it is like christmas every day.
But their way of thinking does not change because they have these so deeply ingrained in their heads. Consequently conflict occurs, especially if their children start to wander away from these very conservative family values, for example, when a daughter wishes to wear western style clothes, or marry a person of their own chosing.
The most conservative of these families don't even like their own children learning our language for these very same reasons. To do so threatens their traditional family roles, because when learning our languages, that can also mean learning about our western way of thinking !
I have worked in such family's houses and have witnessed them together. At no point did I ever feel trusted, but the people were nearly always friendly and helpful.
In one case however I was talked to like I was a disgusting animal because I work in the building trade. It was so obvious they were talking down their noses at me.
This made me pretty angry inside, but being a professional I just kept my cool and kept my feelings to myself.
Instead I made it a point of showing them photographs of some of the luxury bathrooms I had designed and built, and others showing modern "designer quality" work that I had accomplished, I have hundreds of such photographs because I am very proud of what I do.
I am not in the least bit prejudiced about them, how they wish to live or which religion they wish to practice. So long as they stay within the laws which we spent many centuries fighting for, because they are living in our countries now.
As far as I am concerned, all well and good to them for having the courage to leave their homeland to come to Europe, I wish them the best of luck.
But I simply refuse to be bullied by their own prejudices about building workers, as if we are some kind of slave labour scum.
Especially since I have spent 40 years learning many trades and perfecting my abilities, and I am also an immigrant living in a country where the competition is fierce and of extremely high quality.
There is good and bad everywhere !
We have the same problems with segments of immigrants entering the USA. They just fail to WANT to assimilate. It's not like the government has to FORCE them to.
Then we have government agencies who LIE to them or ASSIST them at it. But, you would think they would out of respect for their new home WANT to adjust.
Go figure.
Dont be racist or prejudice you little troll

I don't see the point of these immigrant families coming over to this country if they don't even try or encourage their children to speak English. Thoughts?
