I think there is a much wider variety of people in the real world, and not nearly so many idiots and rude people as TV would have you believe, but not as few as you might hope. You couldn't sell a movie that depicted what normal people do. Normal people would have no reason to watch it.

Some of it is. Depends on what movies you're talking about. A lot of this country is rich; a lot is poor; a lot is in the middle.
