Is uploading soap opera episodes to Youtube illegal?

No it's not fair use. No, it's not legal.

The creators do make a profit off of TV Broadcasts and people tuning in and giving the show ratings.

your uploads would be a distraction to their profits by being a distraction to people tuning in on tv.

It doesn't matter if you aren't making a profit or there isn't a DVD. It's not your material to distribute

Copyright is literally the right to copy and that isn't our right. The Creators, The production studios, The TV networks, They own the copyrights, not us.

You upload to youTube, You copy it to youTube. The right to copy doesn't belong to us. You Copy to youTube or anywhere else online, you violate the copyright

That would be something you have to take up with YouTube on this, I think there is a copyright law/rules on this since Ihave seen so many uploading and then taking down for no reason.

So it's best if you contact them just to be on the safe side. But that's sure is a lot you have saved up!!

Uploading even a single copy of a single episode of any TV show would almost certainly be a federal felony, under US copyright laws, since it would be intentionally infringing the copyright and would be far more than the threshold value of $1,000 for criminal copyright jurisdiction not done for personal profit. 17 USC § 506. The license to broadcast even a crappy show would be close to $20,000 per episode and a good one might be closer to $800,000 per episode. You would be, in effect, stealing that money from the producers.

You could be looking at life in federal prison, not to mention being sued for up to $150,000 in civil damages for each show, not to mention being banned for life from ever contacting YouTube for any purpose.

Other than that, not a problem.

I've saved over 1,000 episodes of my favorite soap, The Bold and the Beautiful (including the entire first year of the show and every episode since 2011). I'm wondering if it would be legal or not to share all of them on Youtube. Not only do I think a lot of people would enjoy seeing them, but I'm also looking to back them up someplace in case I lose them.

Anyone with knowledge on the subject of copyright laws, would sharing soap opera episodes fall under "fair use?" I would not be making any profit at all, and I can't see how I would be costing the creators any profit since soap episodes only air once and are never released on DVD or anything.

Thanks!
