of course it can't be true, why would Liverpool fans urinate on stricken fellow fans?
What might be true is that suffocating fans urinated as a reaction to their physical situation, for the police to try to say they 'had been urinated on' might be true, but utterly out of context.
There were very many lies told around the time of the disaster, mainly by the Police to the Tabloid Press, what actually happened, as subsequent enquiries discovered was (briefly)
1.So. Yorkshire police had an ineffective command and control structure, with no action plans to cover late arrivals at the pitch.
2. Late arrivals to the match, some with tickets, some without began pushing at the wrong set of gates, as they were spilling into a main road, a copper panicked and opened the gates which let the crowd surge into a small enclosed area with further gates into the stands.
3. The stand gates were opened, into "pens" which were already pretty full (you may know the practice at that time was to cage supporters to cut down violence).
4. As the crush got desperate, fans and players were appealing for the match to be stopped, the Police and referee refused, fearing violent fan reaction.
5. The match was stopped eventually, and fans were dragged onto the pitch and the disaster became evident, slowly...
6. Ambulances arrived, the Police kept them waiting because they did not want them driving on the pitch?!?!?!.
7. The incomptent bastard in charge started trying to cover his ar5e by blaming everyone he could.
There was NO evidence at all of urinating on corpses, the fans arriving late were not ALL RAVING DRUNKS the pubs had closed early, they were late because of a motorway accident. There was NO riot, they were pushing and banging at the gates to get in...
Because of the stories planted in the Press, mainly the SUN, that paper was virtually banned from Liverpool. The CCTV footage for the area was "lost" one camera which the Police claimed to be broken had been repaired two days earlier, it's tape was never found...
On subsequent visits to Hillsborough, to mourn their dead, the people from Liverpool have marked themselves as thoroughly decent, ordinary people who have lived through a nightmare, their visits are normally low key, not at all "pompous"
When you sustain a crush injury you lose control of your bladder and bowels. That happened en-masse at Hillsborough. People were pissing and shitting everywhere, on their mates, their loved ones, complete strangers. Many (including my cousin) still have extensive kidney/bowel/reproductive damage.
What your Q and some answers demonstrate, is that people will observe an element of the situation (in this case the urination) and report what they see with malicious intent, to an already biased readership, who in turn delight in nothing more than being able to rationalise their prejudices.
I never thought I'd see the day I'd laugh at answer like David H's, but what he has written is the complete and comprehensive opposite of the official inquiry findings. 'What' 'a' 'wanker'.
I think that was an unsubstantiated rumour doing the rounds at the time.
The fans didn't see or realise what was going on until too late & the crush started.
I remember fans above taking children from parents in the stands below.
It may well have happened - among all the other things.
A published police report says.....drunken Liverpool fans 'without tickets' stormed the gates - got in - and started fighting....causing a 'crowd crush' if front of them by people trying to get out of the way of the fighting etc.....which led too the deaths by 'crushing' of those innocent fans on the front barriers.!!
These Liverpool fans 'sanctimoniously' hold memorial services every so often - to honour the dead - they in complete denial of what was done by 'their supporters' at the time....until the police report was published 1-1/2yrs ago....and Liverpool fans 'still deny' the official reports.!!
Only if you read the sun. On the other hand would you put it past drunken yobbos on stands above the opposition fans
nope the people were crushed and killed because sport treated them like animals and caged them into a confined space. those type of fences are now illegal because they create death traps. professional football is a disgusting game run and played by disgusting characters.
The Daily Mail was banned from the area at the time for reporting the true facts and still partly is.I was on holiday in that area at the time.
Was it really true that some supporters from the upper stand urinated on the supporters that were being crushed beneath or was that just lies?
