I felt the same way when I saw the Tracey Thurman Story, where she gets brutally beaten by her husband (or ex?) while a cop just stands there and watches! Man I was mad watching that. I don't know what the answer is, but I do understand what you feel.
I don't think hiding it because it is uncomfortable is a better option. I get that you don't want it to be glorified, but you really don't want stuff like that to only live in the shadows. It should be in the public eye so people can talk about it. So victims can begin to feel less ashamed, and not hide it.
Hi there As bad as it is it's still the world we live in.
I absolutely hate it too. I understand the need to have a character live something terrible to portray a message to to explain future steps said character will take, but you can show aftermath without showing the actual act. Not to mention that there are rapists out there that probably get off on it, so no need to fuel THAT fire....
Just my opinion though...
Real World time. It happens like other crimes. You found yourself disgusted by it? Good. That was the goal of the director.
A good show gets you emotionally involved, and this one seems to have succeeded
Fast forward, or make a cup of tea.
It shouldn't be in sitcoms.
You are absolutely right..these things should not be there on television. It makes me sad.
I just watched a programme, and it involved a scene of a woman being raped. I obviously found it very horrible to watch, although I know that it's unreal, I just didn't feel comfortable watching it. Seeing someone go through pain and suffer, and then to watch them afterwards how horrified and scared they are; it just makes you realize how realistic it is, and that it happens every day to many people.
I don't know if I sound silly for even feeling disgusted by it, I know it's just a TV show. I just don't think "rape" should be filmed for television, whether its for the story line or the entertainment; I find it terrible.
I'm not saying people can't make documentary's and real life stories about rape, I just disagree with it being in TV shows where viewers don't expect it.
What are your opinions?
