The families were basically on the margine of society and highly dysfunctional. Parents were not parents and the boys did whatever they wanted. It was a breakdown of society all the way around and James Bulgar paid for it with his life. It was sad.
They should have been locked up for life and why on earth they were given new identities if beyond me. It basically makes the public unsafe.
They brutally murdered a boy when they were 10....I think there is no redemption possible.
Child porn is bad, don't get me wrong....but we are lucky it was only that and not another dead body of a child. Venables is where he needs to be. Thompson needs to still be in prison
They were each ten years old when they killed the boy, and were sentenced to incarceration 'til they were 18. They were released on what we in the US would call a life long parole. Venables has since been returned to prison indefinitely.
The handling of their cases were unique. There aren't a lot of ten year old murderers around, and there was no precedents for what the authorities should do. Their special rooms in prison and treatment afterward were to protect them in prison and later, from the outrage in the community once they were released.
I'm not sure what you expect? Do we live in a world in which the actions of a ten year old, no matter how heinous, carries the weight of a lifetime imprisonment? Do we put ten year olds to death?
Any sensible person would know the outrage their sentences caused. Ok. They were 10. I look at my own child and shiver to think she is the same age they were when they murdered james. But lets not forget they tortured him, dragged him for miles, inserted batteries in his body and threw paint over his little body before putting him on the tracks in the hope it would cover up their crime. They knew what they were doing that day. Regardless of age they are child murderers and we have continued to fund and protect them. They should have served a life sentence to make up for the innocent life they took.
I hope they rot in hell.
So I stumbled upon this case on the Internet awhile ago And learnt that the child murderers Robert Thompson and Jon Venables were released after they were locked up LESS than 10 years. Where is the justice in this? Yes they may be children at the time of the crime but didnt that make what they did more evil? I mean, they ARE pure evil. They killed the kid for nothing, they didnt have any family issues, or mental problems, they've never been bullied and have absolutely nothing against the kid. They just saw him and decided to kill him. Isn't that obvious enough that those children are truly evil?
There are no excuse at all, at least them being children is not. Then why were they released so early? And given new identities to protect them? It's not fair!
I'm not saying that they should be locked up forever and rip away their chances of redemption or whatsoever, but their punishment just wasn't enough.
I certainly they're living a miserable life right now.
