I LOVED The Shield.
I haven't watched The Sopranos, but when I was in HS, that was one of the most popular shows on the air. Almost everyone I know that watched it had nothing but good reviews.

Both are excellent. If I had a choice between the two, I would choose The Sopranos first, but both of these shows are fun to watch.
