I think the English language must form a common bond if nothing else does (although I know many Americans dont have English as their first language these days)
The Pilgrim Fathers came from Boston in England, and many Americans can trace their ancestors back to Britain or Ireland.
Our working together in the first world war and the second when we fought side by side during some of the worlds darkest days.
The "special relationship" is a term more used in Britain. I know many Americans dont think of Britain as different to any other. We are often lumped together as "Europe"
This 'Special Relationship' refers to the level of co-operation between the NSA and its Brit-ish equi-val-ent GCHQ. It goes back, at least, to the formation of ECHELON some 50 years ago, although there had been several stepping stones towards a US/UK military-industrial pact some years before this, such as the 1943 BRUSA Agreement.
It means we share the same values of decency, democracy and upholding all that is right. Sadly in recent years it has been abused by certain American Presidents, especially Obama - Obama says jump and he expects us English to ask how high.
I love the American people, well apart from the lefty twit heads lol, and I can't abide the lefty in chief - Obama, he has done so much harm, not just to the USA, but to other countries like Egypt and Syria.
We share the same values in upholding democracy, free speech,
tolerance of religious faiths and the rule of law. We are willing to
defend and fight for this ideology, this way of life and promote it
where necessary. I think Churchill coined the phrase during WW2.
The definition of what exactly that "The Special Relationship" is
and how it it expressed changes from time to time but the elemental
core principals remain unaffected.
The Special Relationship in politics means whatever I do, you never say NO
It's a brotherhood. We've had a very difficult past, but managed to pull it all together in recent decades as not only the best of allies, but family. The Special Relationship was born of the blood and terror of World War II. At the time, even, we both had our misgivings as you have seen probably seen if you watch BBC - they did a piece on how "political" and not in a good way - the relationship has been. However, amidst all this rather "slutty" dirty-dealing between us both (America and Britain) something remarkable happened and it was this: The PEOPLE of our two nations fell in love. Hard. As family. So regardless of what happened, what is happening now and what will happen in the future us Americans, most the most part (every nation will have the odd, negative few) just love the British as brothers. Many of the British feel somewhat the same. (We are both thinking the other side doesn't really mean and it's really kind of cute, but anyway.. :) It's real. It happened. It shouldn't have happened as it may well have been born of something rather sordid, but it did. If the UK and USA had a "shady" romance and bore a child, it would have been born during World War II and it is US. Both our nations have to deal with that because it happened. Does that make any sense?
As long as we do as we're told.
A bit like 'Friends of Israel' without the back handers.
It's not defined in a formal treaty. it is a shared history, culture, language and values. it manifests in friendship, cooperation and trust in intelligence and defence but not this time..
What is "The Special Relationship" I have heard of it and I know that it's got something to do with the United Kingdom and The United States of America.
I understand that the UK and the USA are quite close country's (not geographically, but Friends) I think that has got something to do with it.
But what is "The Special Relationship" I'm confused.
