I recommend Goodfellas, Casino, and the Sopranos. They are all very visceral and entertaining just like Scarface and Breaking Bad. I think Goodfellas is the best "realistic" gangster movie.
Boardwalk Empire is alright (I'm disappointed by the storytelling) but Season 1 was pretty good, especially if you're interested in Prohibition. Characters like Al Capone, Jimmy Darmody, and Richard Harrow make that show worth watching at least to the end of Season 3. Public Enemy (with James Cagney) is an old-school classic from this era. Miller's Crossing may also interest you. Bonnie and Clyde is cool.
Also, take a look at True Romance, Reservoir Dogs, and Blow. These plots are different from Scarface and Breaking Bad but they should still have that grimy, crime experience.
The Departed, Gangs of New York, Carlito's Way, Donnie Brasco, and Eastern Promises are also very good but have themes/stories that stray from just gangster stories.
You also may want to watch the Godfather Part I and II (III is optional), Heat, A Bronx Tale, and Once Upon A Time In America. Along with Scarface, Goodfellas, Casino, and The Departed - these are great crime stories. These are great movies but they are longer and less about drug-dealing/gangsters and more "epic" in a way (deeper themes) - but the emotional experience is there like in Scarface and Breaking Bad. If you love gangster movies - A Bronx Tale is a must to see - I learned so much from this movie. (It's hard to find on DVD/Blu-Ray - maybe it's on Youtube.)
Also, look into The Wire. I've never seen it but I head it's really, really good. Although it focuses on the media and politics too, it should have some great storytelling about crime and consequences.
And for a good laugh - watch The Boondocks (The Fundraiser Episode).
Sons of Anarchy is also a very good show - a lot better than Boardwalk Empire (in my opinion).
Godfather (II) was my fave...American Gangster, Casino, Scarface, and there was one tv show I saw a few times that was pretty hot whee this cop went undercover and infiltrated the Mob but I can't think of the name of it, sorry
