It depends on how well it's produced like all tv shows, some reality shows are really low-budget and poorly made - if it revolves around Z-list celebs or trashy people being followed around talking nonsense then it's brain dead. The step-up from that are mid-range shows like supersize vs superskinny or embarressing bodies, they are still reality tv but they have something about them that is informative and entertaining. The big budget shows like X factor/Big Brother have been genuinely interesting and entertaining in the past, but they've declined a bit over the last few years because the focus has been put on attention seekers instead of genuine/talented people.
Depends on the show. Stuff like Bar Rescue and Tattoo Nightmares are interesting, stuff like "Real Housewives" are for the brain dead.
