In my humble opinion, it will be better. Global empathy is increasing thanks to better information. Remember that in 1914 French soldiers went to fight the Germans, thinking they were eating their own children.
How do we want to live? Look at ancient texts like the story of the Eden. Isn't it what we think it should be? A place where animals and humans live in peace and where food is abundant.
How can we achieve that in the future? Well, we have first to clean for the environmental mess we have done. I think that we should work, carefully, with genetic manipulation. For example, develop a plant that can absorb heavy metals or other pollutants.
Then we have to understand better evolutionist psychology: By sexual selection we have become providers, being biped to bring food. A good provider survived better and today, we worship money that makes us good providers, only that ... how many cars must we own in order to be happy?
I think that, in the future, we will keep modern technology within communication and medicine but we will go back to a simpler way of living simply because ... there isn't enough resources on earth to make us all rich. The problem today is that, if the the industrial world is rich it is because the third world is poor. As long as it lasts, we will see envy, migration and war. That is not what we want, is it?
