What outcome did the 'Terrorist' want from 911?

They thought the United States would cease engagement in the Middle East. For example Middle Eastern nations that the US is friendly with such as Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt would gradually get less and less help from the US.

They got that idea from the fact that the US did turn its back on Somalia after the "Blackhawk Down" episode. Africans inflicted casualties on Americans so the US retreated from east Africa. Therefore they thought if they could kill enough Americans, the US would go back to isolationism. So although I do think the terrorists were evil, I agree with you that they had a coherent goal and not some vague mission of revenge.

The outcome they wanted is probably exactly what happened - people scared of their own shadow and willing to put up with ridiculous loss of liberties so there can be a 5 hour airport security line to make sure nobody has a nail file.

The goal was to disrupt the U. S. economy and to undermine this country's sense of security and well-being - our belief that 'that stuff happens somewhere else. It can't happen here.'

They wanted to change our behavior. That is the point of terrorism. They succeeded.

Terrorists never get what they want and similarly the rioters too cannot get what they want. They are just to die or be punished by God Himself.

Jihadist want Islam to take over the world as they always have.

Don't respond with any brainwashed answer stating they're evil or did it out of ignorance and hate. If any organization can plot something of this magnitude, they must have a valid reason ( although most Americans are brainwashed to see them as evil )

I want a neutral answer. And Im sure the 'Extremist' didn't perform this action as an act of vengeance, i.e. just to do it, they had some sort of idea of what the US response would have been.

If you say "because Americas corporations and ties with Israel" I want you to directly tie-in why they might have thought the attacks would have changed anything. Obviously they're not a bunch of idiot criminals with an agenda (they had real motive) and were probably aware that the attacks wouldn't hurt the US government besides giving them a reason to retaliate against anyone they want looking to falsely 'defend' themselves. (a way to freely justify any military imperialism)

My thinking on it is: 'Terrorist' wouldn't just murder all those people just for the sake of it. I believe there is an impact they were looking for and a response from the public, but everywhere I look I can only find ignorant answers lacking critical thinking, that seem to have been passed down from the mouths of politicians and the media.

Conspiracy theories aside please, as that's not what I am looking for i.e. What the terrorist thought the impact would have been, and what they had hoped for the aftermath.
