For drama, Orange is the New Black.
For mystery/scifi, Sherlock - a must, or Supernatural.
For movies, I quite enjoyed Instructions Not Included, Mean Girls 1/2 (classics), Revenge of the Bridesmaids, Dance Academy, White Chicks, 13 Going on 30, Legally Blondes, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2).

I think I was around your age (15 ish) when I first saw the show Firefly. It only lasted half a season but it is considered one of the best science fiction shows of all time. I liked science fiction before but that show REALLY got me hooked. Now i watch pretty much anything science fiction or made by that director (Joss Whedon) that i can get my hands on. At 19 that is still my favorite show and I've watched the whole series multiple times. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (which is Buffy's spin off) are also excellent and made by the same director as Firefly (fun fact- that director also directed the Avengers). If you watch Firefly WATCH IT IN ORDER. All of Joss Whedon's stuff has really strong female characters. I've been meaning to watch Dr. Who (seen only a little), Sherlock (seen a little), and Supernatural (haven't seen yet) and everyone raves about how great those shows are.
