He was beaten but allowed to stay in power in Iraq,but by 2003 he was flouting UN orders so America and Britain had to invade again in the 2nd Gulf war. Saddam was executed sometime after.
I ran across this true article/blog awhile back. Saddam's regime used chemical weapons (WMD) on the Kurdish people of Iraq, several times. This is why the Iraqis gave him a trial and hanged him. Some of these pictures are graphic:

he used the millions and millions of dollars given to his country in the oil for food program to build opulent palaces for himself. the money intended to help the poor for food , medical and other necessities was also spent on a variety of luxury items for himself and his cronies while very little if any went to the purposes for which it was intended. this corruption alone caused more suffering than anything else he did. when Iraq was invaded, there were several palaces under construction.
He used nerve gas on a Kurd village killing hundreds of them. He had people thrown live into acid baths. He allowed his sons to kidnap any women off the streets and rape them. He killed his own relatives if they crossed him. He started a bloody war with Iran and used mustard gas which left some Iranians horribly disfigured and suffering.He supported Hamas by rewarding 25,000 dollars to the families of suicide bombers who killed Israelis. He forced his followers to shoot themselves to show their loyalty to him. He destroyed the wetlands which has supported a whole group of people for generations. The good things he did was allow women more freedom than they have now. Despite all the bad things he did whether we had the right to invade a sovereign state is very questionable since doing so without provocation was the first charge against the Nazi war criminals at Nuremberg where we were one of and the leading prosecutor.
However, Bush and his american invasion killed close to a million people and reduced the country to a state of messy anarchy with no infrastructure. Iraqi were actually much better off and more of them were alive when Saddam was in power before the americans got there.

I know he tortured thousands of innocent people and everyone was afraid of him. I know he had a crazy amount of power, got Iraq into billions of dollars in debt, and he was just evil. But could you tell me some others things? Maybe a little bit about his control over the oil or whatever you know about him. Thank you.
