Three Alternative explanations:
1. Bin Laden said it was revenge against american involvement in the Middle East. Before 9/11 thousands of moslems had already died at the hands of american forces.
2. American government and media said it was a total surprise and the US had lost its innocence, not knowing any reason why those nasty foreigners would attack the nice USA.
3. Bush and Cheney wanted an excuse to invade the Middle East, so they needed to concoct a scenario where americans would feel threatened and afraid of Moslems, so Bush could come to the rescue and invade any country in the Middle East, knowing the average american does not know one Middle Eastern country from another. They were willing to sacrifice a few thousand americans to make the point. Americans believed the ruse and Bush had his crusade and killed a million people without americans seeming to worry at all about all that death and destruction.
When you're the biggest kid on the block, everyone wants to prove how tuff they are. Bin Laden was a typical Progressive: Blame America. It made him popular, for a long time. George Obama ( Mr. O's youngest brother) believes it's the governments fault. Whatever the situation is, the government had a big hand in it. Kenya is poor because of corrupt officials. Some years ago, Codevilla wrote about that in his book: The Character of Nations. If America did not exist, no nation would be as prosperous as it is now. In fact, many nations & peoples would not exist.
