I'm Canadian, but I was living in NY at the time 9/11 happened. I was suspended from school cause I ran around my school naked. I lived next to the WTC, and literally 30 seconds after I wake up, I look out my window, and hear a plane, and then hear an explosion, set my eyes to the WTC, and watch the building burst into flames. I got to watch the whole event unfold from my bedroom window. It was scary.
I am a Canadian, and I was at the apartment of my then GF, who was a high school teacher in Linden, NJ. She had left to go teach at her school, and she let me sleep in that morning. I woke up at about 8:55 AM, noted the time and as it was near to the top of the hour, turned on the TV that was about two meters from the foot of the bed, to get a newscast from CNN.
So, I came in after the first impact, but before the second one. As we had been at Windows On The World the spring before, I had a good sense of the overall size, such as the width of the towers, and once a couple of camera angles showed me the full size of the first impact hole, I thought to myself, no way was this an accident. No plane that big is going to make that big of an error on such a clear day.
Then, a few minutes later, I had all the proof I needed, when I saw the second impact on live TV.
My GF called from her school around 10:30 AM, and told me that the school was on info lockdown, so she wanted to know from me a brief recap of what was going on. By then the towers were down. I told her.
By the afternoon, I went to a public library two blocks away to use their Internet access for a while. By the late afternoon, I could smell some of the debris cloud smells in the air. And, that night, with her back with me, we noted the total silence in the air, as that apartment wasn't far from Newark Airport, so the lack of any commercial flights was very noticeable.
A week and a half later, I drove home solo, and that was the only time that I've seen military manned checkpoints on the US side of the border, that were checking every car leaving the US.
Shaving, getting ready for work when I heard the breaking news on the TV in the bedroom.
I could tell it was something really bad because the reporter live at the scene sounded distressed and confused. He kept saying "This maybe pilot error, we dont know what has happened." So I walked over to the TV to check it out and the second plane hit; the reporter totally lost it, so did I.
I could'nt fathom what I was watching.
Living Here in Arizona; I was JUST waking up from a good Nights Sleep, when the phone next to my Bed rang- with the news that Something was "Going On" -in New York. THAT was the beginning of a LONG Day by the Phone, in front of the TV... .. .
I was in 2nd grade in the library with my class for story time.We were reading the rainbow fish. My mom came to get me me due to the tragedy. I remember being really upset because I couldn't finish the story. I didn't really understand what was going on due to my age. I just remember my mom being really upset.
