Where were you when you heard about 9/11?

I am 67 so remember it well,of course. I am in England and had intended going for a walk by the river, but an in stint told me to stat and I put on the TV on the BBC. They said they were going across to New York and it was in time to see the second plane hit the building.it was a terrible thing to see.

I was in fourth grade at the time, so I was at school when the attacks happened. I was close to the Pentagon- I lived in a Virginia suburb of DC at the time that was only about 40 minutes away. Anyway, I remember the teacher next door came into my classroom and began whispering with my teacher, and they looked so upset and worried. From then on me and all the other kids knew something was wrong but no one would tell us anything all day. A lot of kids' parents started coming and picking their kids up early, but mine decided to just leave me there. So, when I got home that afternoon I finally found out what had happened- I remember getting off the bus and running into my house to find my mom and ask her what the heck was going on. I found both her an my dad (who had been sent home from work early) watching the news and that was when I saw the planes hitting the towers. My mom told me what happened and I was pretty freaked out, especially with the Pentagon attack being so close to home. I had never heard of terrorists before and was scared at the idea that people out there wanted to kill and destroy us all. I remember seeing the disturbing footage of the people who jumped from the towers, and feeling really sad for the people who died and all of the people who lost loved ones...especially the kids like me who lost parents. I could have been one of those kids. My dad had worked in the Pentagon the first few years we lived in Virginia, but thankfully he was working somewhere else by 9/11, though he did still go there for meetings sometimes. I am so thankful to this day that he wasn't there that day.

I was in second grade, I believe in a elementary history class. The principle came on the speakers and said that something terrible has happened. It will make this day as a tragedy forever. She then said ask your mom and dad when you get home about the details. I had no idea until I got out of school and my mom explained it to me.

I was out in the yard gardening. My Grandmother came running out and told me that a plane hit the Empire state building. Since she had dementia, I thought she was having a flashback and so I ignored her. Then I saw the fighter jets fly over ( I live in Massachusetts) and knew something was up and went in and turned on the TV. I turned on the TV and saw the people jumping and saw things that would later be edited. I was disgusted.

at the time i lived about 25 miles from new york city. that day i was in middle school and my dad came to take me out of school. my parents didn't want me to start hearing rumors from the other kids about the attacks in NYC. they didn't want me to be scared and alone at school. the teachers were not allowed to tell us anything by the way. my mom was helping school officials for hours call parents of students who worked in New York City to make sure they were okay. no parents from our town died that day thank god!

cell phones weren't very popular then, but my father had one, and his cell phone had no reception that whole day. our town and many other towns in the Tri-state area of NY had no cell reception because there were cell towers on top of the twin towers that were taken down that day.

i remember that day like it was yesterday. i knew people who were in the towers but made it out alive. god bless the victims and victims' families.

At work.

Working at my desk and overwhelmed with disbelief.
