Freelance TV news cameraman do the same. That is what I did.
With E.N.G. Vans, the TV station buys a normal van from a car dealer, usually the one from where they buy their cars and other vehicles, and they install the equipment inside the van to their own configuration.
I have seen several vans made this way here in Melbourne, Australia.
"PAULH" is correct. These larger vans and O.B. Vans are also done by the TV station after buying a large truck or van.
They probably cut a deal for a bulk buy with a major player and renew every few years.
