My husband and I gave up around the third episode of the second season. However, several friends convinced us to give it another shot, so we did. And it does get much, much better. The problem is that the first season flails around a lot. It had trouble finding its footing and direction. And unfortunately that season does a lot of world-building and sets up the mythos, so it can't be skipped. Individual episodes were decent, but the overall series was just kind of meh. It started finding its way toward the end of the first season and became less monster-of-the week and more serialized. By the end of season 2 it was pretty much a totally serialized show with a 5-season story arc and a new sub-plot per season.

In short, it's worth watching if you enjoy the genre, but it does take a while to get good.

Could it be you simply don't really like the Supernatural/Horror/Mythology-genre?

Because from the sound of it, you don't care much for the lore, the mythology behind what happened(there's a clear purpose, and back-story(later to be revealed) why these things happen), and wanted some 'sensation' instead.

From the sound of it, you're more of an Action-show type, than a Supernatural-drama type. And if that's the case, you won't like the show, try something more action based.

its about these two brothers going on fighting supernatural stuff. but the thing i like most about the show is that the first 5 seasons everything makes sense at the end and when you look back you wont find even a single unnecessary drama unlike other shows. also the character of dean and sam is really interesting and theyre really hot. also i guess the reason you found it crappy is bc the first season came out almost 7-8 years ago so it all seems a bit old. but i promise you wont be bored. give it a chance

I know this is going to sound really superficial, but some people watch it just because the guys are hot. My mom watches it and some times I watch it with her. I hate everything about it, except the guys are pretty attractive. And sometimes they're funny.

It gets better as the show goes on. The first seasons of alot of shows suck...its like they are still finding themselves or something.

Because they haven't been exposed to better shows.

I decided to give the show a try about a month ago, on Netflix and I watched about 20 minutes into the very first season and episode and it was so crappy. Sorry if i'm offending anyone, i quite forget but their mom is on the ceiling and this incredibly cheesy fire? Is the show actually really interesting or? Did anyone else who started watching Supernatural think it was weird at first but ended up liking it?
