What about Slumdog Milliionaire, 2008 or Shakespeare in Love 1998. The later is a comedy although also a romance and not a side splitter like the ones you mention.

The people choosing and giving out the oscars are not comedians, they are actors .
I am not me to decide what movies to watch based on what critics say about them. I go see what I think I will enjoy and don't really care what other people think about it. But I was wondering why comedies are almost always overlooked for oscars. Great parodies like Airplane! And Spaceballs were brilliant pieces of work. Yet they were just looked past. Comedies make us laugh, and isn't that a good think in this tough world? Laughter is the best medicine for what ails you. Most people go to movies just wanting to be entertained, not educated.
