Why is Star Trek on BBC America anyway?

I'm not at all complaining. It's a British Channnel.

Star Trek isn't British.

Star Trek is popular in many places in the world. And I think it's because Patrick Stewart is the main star.

Plus it's about a fictional future where people don't worry about things like America or Britain. They are citizens of a diverse Federation.

Simply, you own a channel, choose your audience and prepare a chart of TV shows to get that audience. You pay to whomever has the rights of the show and you get the show in your channel.

Aditionally, as you said its BBC America, so its showing you TV shows american people likes, I cant figure out an american watching Dr. Who or Sherlock Holmes (BBC show) against watching an old american show like Star Trek.

Maybe you thnk you are watching the same BBC channel they watch in England, but thats wrong, you are watching a tropicalized version of BBC for american viewers.

Its like "Top Gear" show, the english version is excellent, but they made that bad American copy of "Top Gear" for the americans to watch. I dont like the American "Top Gear".

BBC America doesnt only show British shows. They used to rerun X Files a lot and their show Orphan Black takes place in Toronto.

I have wondered the exact same thing! I am thinking that maybe it is because Patrick Stewart (Capt. Picard) is British, so they figure it's a British/American show...?? That's the only reason I can think of.
