The show is getting a little long in the tooth and needs some shaking so they tried killing Brian. It got you thinking/talking about it didn't it?
Actually, Horace died last season. I'm not sure why they decided to kill him off, but the general consensus seems to be that killing Brian off was just a ratings stunt, and that he'll be back before too long. In fact, there's a strong rumor that he's going to be returning in the episode that's going to be on tonight ("Christmas Guy"). That's partially because the info for it says "Stewie devises a master plan to get the one and only thing he wants for Christmas", which seems as though it could be getting Brian back, or at least getting the piece he needs to fix the time machine. And in the episode where Brian died ("Life of Brian"), he did say that he had gone forward to Christmastime to get a toy that he wanted before it actually came out. So he could just wait around until the past version of him shows up, then either warn him or use his return pad to save Brian. But I guess we'll just have to watch the episode and see if any of that theory is right or not.
