Why isnt the Navy Yard shooter considered a terrorist?

No. McVeigh was a Christian and that didn't mean all Christians were called terrorists after McVeigh blew up the Murrah bldg. in OK City. Broad generalizations never hold up to scrutiny, especially about religious groups or ethnic groups.

By definition, a terrorist is any one who uses violence to promote a political or religious agenda. The violence is usually aimed at civilians with the hope of using fear and chaos to influence the government.

Being a Muslim has nothing to do with being a terrorist. There have been non-Muslim terrorists. If you need examples, do some research into the IRA in Ireland.

At this time, the Navy Yard shooting does not appear to be a terrorist attack simply because we don't know what the shooter's motivations were. Initial reports do not show he was connected with any terrorist group, so at least in that regard, the "not a terrorist attack" classification holds.

The investigation is still ongoing, but at least for now, this just appears to have been the action of a single, angry individual and not as part of some political or religious statement.

Terrorists usually act out in order to cause fear within a population. Many people define a terrorist as having a political agenda. I am not sure if the media has enough information on the shooter to define what he is yet. Usually that takes at least a week.

Because terrorists target civilians in order to promote some political agenda. If a guy is basically nuts and shoots others, he's not a terrorist.

You can consider the shooter to be a terrorist if you want. Considering that he is dead, I doubt it is going to affect things that much.

I saw on the cnn yesterday they were talking about the guy and they said since hes not affiliated w al qaeda or any other terror organization he not a terrorist. And that he was just a guy who had a grudge against the navy or something. But if he was a Muslim then would he be considered a terrorist?
