It's possible but I doubt anything like this will ever happen in our lifetime. Japan and the United States have been researching technology on using robots for wars, last I read about it was in 2012.

In order for that to happen, the robots would have to become sentient beings. That won't happen anytime in the near future. What will happen is that robots will become working drones doing jobs and military drones fighting our wars.
