The solar system passing through a "photon belt" near Alcyone? Good story, but photons do not form belts, Alcyone is moving away from us and it was all supposed to happen about 1958.

The the Mayan calendar does not really predicted the end of the world in 2012 on December 21. It is only indicated as being the end of a 13th major cycle and there are other dates mentioned beyond it. The notion of a "Great Cycle" coming to an end is completely a modern invention.
However we do seem to be in the end times period of history in this year of 2012. For example, Jesus predicted for the end times seem to be on the increase now such as false Christs, wars and rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes. (See Matthew Chapter 24) We are seeing more and more of these things and also unusual weather. Astronomers also predict possible huge solar storms out of the sun in 2013, which could disrupt satellites.
According to those who have studied Bible prophecy, we will experience a 7 year period called the Great Tribulation (before the 2nd coming of Christ) in which "the beast" or anti-Christ will rise up to rule the world. This world leader will bring in a cashless system in which no one can buy or sell without a mark on the right hand or forehead. i have a home in south of france ..behind my place is a mountain buggeresh ...right now the place isteeming with hippies ...thousands of them ..there have been more ufo sightings on this mountain than anywhere else in europe ...they believe the aliens are coming on 21st december ..and the mountain is the last place on earth to be destroyed..or saved ..take your pick ..but get in the queue
The funny thing is that the Mayan calendar (or Aztec, I've heard that it might be Aztec) didn't account for leap years, so if you add up all the days from past leap years the world should have ended roughly 7 months ago.

Just look at history and remember all the other supposed world ending days. And if the world was going to end, which it won't any time soon, you won't know anything about it, you'll be dead.

No. There have been hundreds if predicted dates from various ancient sources in the past, all proved wrong obviously, and there will be hundreds more to come in the future, which will also be wrong
