It's not impossible, but it's rather improbable.
In recent years, al-Qaeda has attempted to bring down planes by sending bombs in printer cartridges, bombs inserted in bodily crevices, bombs in underwear, bombs in shoes, etc.
None succeeded.
Sure, eventually they'll get through--see Boston bombing--, but something on the scale of 9/11 is extremely unlikely. What may be more likely, if the Assad regime collapses and the rebels seize control, is that some of the extremist elements of the coalition (al-Nusra, for example) may plunder the regime's chemical weapon storehouses to use the weaponized chemicals in an attack. However, I do not believe this scenario is likely.
Bottom note: don't worry too much about terrorists.
Another grand attack on the scale of 9/11 is not impossible but it is improbable. The face of terrorism has changed a lot in the last 12 years. Now rather than well organized international networks the threat is far more likely to be the lone-wolf, non-affiliated independent operators in the Boston Bombing mold.

Well if the US decide to back up the Sirian rebels and fight or supply more weapons. General Bashar Al-Assad could launch a chemical attack on american soil
Should we take this as a threat?
I wasn't old enough to really remember 9/11, my family and school must have kept me away from the media, and for some reason I can barely remember the London Bombings.
But is another one possible?
We have advances in technology and are more equipped to deal with an attack, but we can't prevent someone walking into times square or wherever could set one off I guess.
Do you think if so it will be on the scale of the attack of 9/11?
